DONATE

Tonight was all about the dancing. We gathered for our nightly devotional time. We normally start by singing some songs together and continue with sharing and bonding. Earlier in the night I found some remixes of the girl’s favorite songs to sing. I began to play them instead of our normal sing along. In natural progression I began to dance. The surprise factor got me some “you cray cray” looks around the room. With large scooping motions I encouraged everyone to join me. One of the younger girls jumped right in and went for it! We were getting really into the music and another joined. At this point three is officially a party. Then the rest of the girls come all at once and all the seats in the house are butt-less.

Writing about it now I’m reminded of this three minute TED talk that the Wipe Every Tear founder shared with me before I came to the Philippines. It reminded him of our time ministering in the bars and how dancing in them had opened some amazing opportunities to reach women.

Following is an underrated endeavor. Many of the women in our care who have left trafficking have brought followers in tow and it’s a beautiful thing. The old show the new what it looks like to go this new way better than anyone else can dream to provide an example of.

At the risk of sounding trite, following Jesus is a beautiful thing in the same vein. It can cause you to do crazy things like quit your job and jet set to the Philippines because, the love pouring into you is a burning fury to be poured out again. It can cause you to leave the chains of opression you’ve come to know as comfort. It can give you the courage to step into a new life. I’m not saying it is all roses but, it sure is not void of wonderment, awe and reward.
